Deployment background
Growing wind and solar penetration on the local network had increased the frequency and severity of deviation events, pushing existing balancing resources beyond comfortable operating margins.
Conventional stabilisation options were capital-heavy and slow to respond, and could not be sited flexibly across the distribution area where the disturbances originated.
The operator needed a compact resource that could react within milliseconds, be located close to the constraint, and earn revenue from grid services between events.
